The head of Rossotrudnichestvo (Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation of the Russian Federation), Yevgeny Primakov, has confirmed the fact of receiving a note from Azerbaijan on the need to register the Russian Cultural Center (Russian House) in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. Primakov informed about this on the air of Russia 24 television.

“So far, we can only confirm that a note has arrived from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan addressed to our Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It notes that our representative office, the Russian Information and Cultural Center (RICC), called the Russian House, must be registered [in Azerbaijan] as a legal entity under local legislation,” Primakov said.

He explained that “this is fundamentally provided for by the intergovernmental agreement signed back in 1997.”

To note, Russia and Azerbaijan are allied states and strategic partner countries.
