Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russia is ready to facilitate the peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan, but the two parties are able to conduct them on their own, RIA Novosti reports.

"Yerevan has made statements at various levels that there is no need for mediators. Yerevan and Baku are able to complete this process on their own. Being ready to provide any possible assistance, we [i.e. Russia] welcome independent efforts. The main thing is that the region, the South Caucasus, remains predictable, peaceful, and turns into a space of prosperity and cooperation," Peskov said in response to reporters' request to comment on Armenian parliament speaker Alen Simonyan’s statement that Armenia is unlikely to agree to Russia's mediation in resolving the conflict with Azerbaijan.
