Spanish police have seized, as part of an international operation, a yacht carrying 600kg of cocaine and heading to the Canary Islands, the Spanish law enforcement agencies said in a press release on Tuesday.

According to police, the criminals used a Polish-flagged yacht to transport a large consignment of drugs to Spain. The yacht was seized 800 miles west of Tenerife.

The interception of the yacht was the result of active cooperation between law enforcement agencies from several countries. Information received by French intelligence services in the Caribbean, together with intelligence from the UK and the US, enabled them to determine this yacht's route and plan its seizure.

Spanish authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover the entire smuggling ring and identify those involved.
