The world's superpowers and international organizations often point to fundamental human rights and universal values in their statements. However, in the 21st century, the fascist regime of Azerbaijan is committing an unprecedented Armenian cultural genocide in temporarily occupied Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) right before the eyes of these same organizations and powers—and with their silence and complicity, writes Hovik Avanesov, the Ombudsman of Culture of the Armenian Highlands.

“To make it clear what scale we are talking about, let us remind once again that every week, international academic centers cooperating with us record—in their constant monitoring—the vandalism or destruction of two [more Armenian] monuments [in Artsakh].

"Azerbaijan is purposefully and systematically destroying Armenian cultural heritage, grossly violating international conventions and all norms of humanitarian law.

“It is no longer just about the destruction of historical and architectural monuments or churches; we are dealing with the complete destruction of entire settlements. The Armenian trace of Artsakh is being erased on a daily basis, and this crime is being carried out at the highest level of the [Azerbaijani] state, directly on the instructions of [president] Ilham Aliyev," the Ombudsman of Culture of the Armenian Highlands added, in particular.
