Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has confirmed that Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. According to Peskov, the conversation was long and substantial. The Russian leader invited Mr. Trump to Moscow, Kommersant reports.

“During the conversation, the topics of the Middle East settlement, the Iranian nuclear program, as well as bilateral Russian-American relations in the economic sphere were touched upon,” Putin's spokesman said.

According to Peskov, Donald Trump emphasized the need for an early cessation of hostilities in Ukraine and the search for a peaceful solution. Vladimir Putin emphasized the importance of eliminating the causes of the conflict and supported the idea of a long-term settlement through negotiations.

“(Putin, - Kommersant) expressed his readiness to receive American officials in Russia in those areas of work that are of mutual interest, including, of course, the topic of the Ukrainian settlement,” Peskov added.
