MEPs have called on the international community to join a boycott of “Georgia's self-proclaimed authorities, whom they accuse of undermining democracy in the country and suppressing dissent,” the European Parliament said in a statement. 

In a resolution adopted on Thursday, the European Parliament refused to recognize the authorities of the ruling Georgian Dream party, calling the October 26, 2024 parliamentary elections falsified.

The EU legislature also refused to recognize the legitimacy of Georgia's newly elected President Mikhail Kavelashvili and called on the international community to join a boycott of Georgia's ruling elite.

“MEPs continue to recognize Salome Zurabishvili as the legitimate president of Georgia and call on European Council President António Costa to invite her to represent the country at the upcoming meetings of the European Council and the European Political Community,” the statement said.
