YEREVAN. – Armenian athlete Harutyun Merdinyan, 27, achieved unprecedented success this year. He won bronze medal for pommel-horse exercises at European Championship in Berlin. It is the first medal of Armenia in the European Championship of artistic gymnastics. Merdinyan gave an interview to Armenian News-NEWS.am.
In response to what he felt when he stood on the pedestal of the Championship, he said that at first he understood nothing, but later he realized that he is the winner of bronze and has registered serious achievements.
Regarding what is required to be a champion of Europe, Merdinyan said that one needs to train much and better perform exercises.
As for the competition whether it was hard or there were other reasons that Merdinyan failed to win a medal in the World Championship, the athlete responded that he had health problems after the European Championship. He was treated, however, pain resumed and he could not perform properly during the World Championship.
