The Russian and US negotiating teams will start contacts on the Ukraine issue in due course, said Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.

High-level Russian-American talks have kicked off Tuesday in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

Russia is represented at these talks by foreign minister Sergey Lavrov and presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.

Opposite them are three American negotiators: Secretary of State Marco Rubio National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff.

And representatives of Saudi Arabia are at the head of the negotiating table.

The task of these talks is to agree on how to start negotiations on the Ukraine issue, Ushakov noted.

"We have discussed and outlined our fundamental approaches, and agreed that separate teams of negotiators on this topic will contact each other in due course," noted Ushakov in response to the question of whether the Riyadh negotiations touched upon the topic of the Ukrainian settlement.
