Only US President Donald Trump can end the war in Ukraine, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said after Russian and American officials met in Saudi Arabia to discuss the war in Ukraine.

“In just a few months, President Trump has shifted the entire global conversation away from the question of not whether the war will end, but how it will end. Only President Trump can do that,” he said, according to CNN.

His comments mirror an earlier statement by a U.S. State Department official who said Trump is “the only leader in the world who can get Ukraine and Russia” to agree to peace.

“President Trump wants to stop the killing; the U.S. wants peace and is using its power in the world to bring countries together. President Trump is the only leader in the world who can get Ukraine and Russia to agree to that,” State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said Tuesday.
