A Sudanese military plane crashed in Omdurman, Sudan, the country's army said in a statement, reports Al Arabiya television.

The plane crashed near Wadi Seidna airbase—near residential buildings, and several buildings were damaged.

The crash of the AN plane—the exact model was not specified—killed 46 people, reported AP. Among the dead are both military personnel and civilians.

Military sources told Reuters that the plane crashed most likely due to technical reasons. Among the dead is Major General Bahr Ahmed, who previously served as army commander in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.
