The European Union Monitoring Mission in Armenia (EUMA) has a positive impact on ensuring stability on the internationally recognized borders of Armenia and Azerbaijan. It is precisely because of its role as a factor of stability that EUMA is often targeted and subjected to undue criticism by various countries. Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan, stated this during an event Friday marking the second anniversary of the deployment of EUMA.

“We are also not surprised that sometimes the content of criticism coming from two different capitals coincides by almost 90 percent. We consider the false propaganda against the EU mission unacceptable, and will continue our joint work with the mission to counter fake news. Also, the mission is positively changing the perceptions of Armenian public about the EU,” Grigoryan said, adding that Armenia-EU relations are value-based, strong, promising, and expanding.

According to the head of the Security Council of Armenia, EUMA has repeatedly proven its demand. A vivid example is its work ahead of the Pashinyan-Blinken-von der Leyen meeting in Brussels on April last year, when accusations were made against Armenia and false rumors were spread that Armenia was preparing for an attack.

“The EU mission played an important role here, which, through its monitoring, refuted the false rumors and helped stabilize the situation,” said Armen Grigoryan.
