Letters were delivered Tuesday to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia, as well as to the Swiss embassy in Armenia.

As reported earlier, the letter addressed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, urges him to invoke the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations to establish a mechanism for ensuring consular access to Armenian prisoners held in Baku [the capital of Azerbaijan], facilitated through third countries. Specifically, it requests that Armenia seek the assistance of a neutral third party, particularly the Swiss Confederation, to enable consular access for all Armenian prisoners and provide emergency medical aid to former Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) state minister Ruben Vardanyan.

And the letter addressed to the President of the Swiss Confederation, Karin Keller-Sutter, highlights Switzerland’s longstanding commitment to international humanitarian law and its role as a neutral mediator. It requests that Switzerland once again assume this responsibility and step in to ensure Armenian prisoners have access to consular services.

These letters, signed by approximately 40 Armenian NGOs, were delivered by the NGO representatives.
