Turkey on Tuesday invited Iran's chargé d'affaires to Ankara over accusations by some Iranian officials against Turkey, Foreign Ministry spokesman Oncu Keceli said, Anadolu quoted diplomatic sources as saying.

Keceli noted that the Iranian chargé d'affaires has been invited to the Foreign Ministry to exchange views and address these accusations.

Emphasizing that Turkish and Iranian officials regularly meet and exchange views, he said bilateral issues were also discussed during the meeting.

According to Keceli, “Iranian officials have recently become more frequent in publicly criticizing Turkey, adding that a dossier prepared by the ministry on the issue was previously sent to the Iranian side.”

“We believe that foreign policy issues should never be used as material for domestic politics.

“In this regard, we prefer to convey critical messages that need to be conveyed to another country directly to its interlocutors. This is the path we have followed today. We highly value our relations with Iran. It is important for us to strengthen relations between Turkey and Iran,” the Turkish official added.

Earlier, an Iranian Foreign Ministry official and an adviser to Iran's supreme leader sharply criticized Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan's remarks in an interview with Al Jazeera, in which he said Iran has spent enormous resources “for the sake of its conquests in the region.”
