US President Donald Trump said in his address to Congress that he received a letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in which the latter announced his readiness for peace talks.

The letter says “Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians,” Trump said.

According to him, Zelenskyy announced also his readiness to sign an agreement on mineral extraction at any time.

“I am also working tirelessly to end the savage conflict in Ukraine,” Trump said. “Millions of Ukrainians and Russians have been needlessly killed or wounded in this horrific and brutal conflict, with no end in sight. The United States has sent hundreds of billions of dollars to support Ukraine’s defense.”

Should this go on for another five years, Trump asked, and again stated that the US has spent far more on assisting Ukraine than Europe has.
“Meanwhile, Europe has sadly spent more money buying Russian oil and [natural] gas than they have spent on defending Ukraine—by far!” the US president added.
