It is already a well-known truth that the Armenian captives are being tortured in Baku; this information was also confirmed by Nikol Pashinyan. Before this, you were stating that we do not want to provoke torture, the use of prohibited means with our statements. Why are we making a statement about it now? Because we see that we cannot provoke anymore, it has already happened. Opposition MP Agnesa Khamoyan stated this, addressing Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during the Armenian parliament’s question and answer session with the government on Wednesday

"When our compatriots have already been tortured, the photos proving this have appeared on the internet, what else are you doing besides statements?" Khamoyan asked Pashinyan.

In response, the Armenian said: “The efforts made towards signing a peace treaty [with Azerbaijan] are one of the actions that, beyond the statements, can and will most likely contribute to the solution of the problem you mentioned and other problems. Apart from the statements, we [i.e. Armenia] continue to adhere to the peace agenda because we believe that this is the action and the climate of peace is the action that can solve this problem, among other things.”

Agnesa Khamoyan responded: “While you are creating a climate with Azerbaijan, [former Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) state minister] Ruben Vardanyan is on a hunger strike in Azerbaijan for the 15th day.”

Also, she showed a photo of the former military and political leaders of Artsakh from their “trial” in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, and said: “These are our other prisoners of war, whose lives are also in danger while you are creating a climate with Azerbaijan.”

In turn, Pashinyan said: “First of all, I want to say that your question was specific. Applying is also from the genre of statements. The foreign minister reminded that this issue was widely discussed at the session of the international Human Rights Committee. Yes, you are right. I am the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, and the prime minister's duty is to focus not only on the interests of one person, but also on the state interests of the Republic of Armenia and the interests of the citizens of the Republic of Armenia. Yes, including focusing in a proportionate and reasonable manner, including on solving the problems of one person. If there is a goal to reverse this logic, I will say from the beginning: is an unattainable goal."
