An independent DNA comparison mechanism is proposed between Armenia and Azerbaijan regarding missing persons. This is reflected in the Assessment Report of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), APA reports.

It was noted that in both Armenia and Azerbaijan there are missing persons from the First and Second Karabakh Wars, and the remains found in the territories where military operations took place may belong to both sides. Therefore, the establishment of an independent DNA comparison mechanism could be one of the few effective ways to confirm identification of these missing persons and provide results to their families.

With the help of this mechanism, for example, the ICMP can ensure a scientific and impartial process in which DNA profiles will be compared anonymously and systematically. This approach will protect the identification process from any political or national bias.

If a match is confirmed, the results of the comparison will be submitted to both countries, and forensic experts and relevant authorities will be able to make decisions based on scientific evidence.

This mechanism, in addition to creating an opportunity for families of both peoples to find answers, will also contribute to cooperation and reconciliation in the region. It will enable a commitment to collectively address the issue of missing persons as a matter that transcends national borders.
