The regular hearings in the “trial” into the case of former Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) state minister Ruben Vardanyan are scheduled for Tuesday at the Baku Military Court, in the Azerbaijani capital.
Vardanyan has been on a hunger strike since February 18 in protest against this mock trial. He has been on a hunger strike for the 22nd day. In the photos published last week, he looked very fatigued.
Back on February 26, Ruben Vardanyan’s international lawyer Jared Genser had stated that his client’s health was at risk. Genser has been banned from entering Azerbaijan, so he called on all international organizations that have access to prisoners in Azerbaijan to obtain permission to visit Vardanyan.
More than two weeks have passed since this statement. Also, it is not known what state of health Ruben Vardanyan will be in today’s court session—although it does not matter to the Azerbaijani court. In previous sessions, despite Vardanyan's poor health, they continued their farce called “trial.”
