An armed group in Pakistan's Balochistan region attacked a train carrying hundreds of passengers and took hostages, BBC News reported, citing military sources.

“The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) shelled a Jaffar Express train traveling from Quetta to Peshawar.

The movement said in a statement that it bombed the tracks before storming the train in the remote Sibi district. They claimed the train was under their control.

Pakistani police told local reporters that at least three people, including the train driver, were injured in the attack.

Security forces have been dispatched to the scene of the attack, police said. A medical emergency has been declared at public hospitals in the area.

According to AFP, the attackers took more than 450 people hostage.
