Our normalization process with Turkey continues. In addition to the establishment of diplomatic relations, the opening of borders, the resumption of transport infrastructure between us are key. This was stated by foreign minister Ararat Mirzoyan in the National Assembly of Armenia Friday—and during the debates on the implementation of the government's 2024 program.

"The launch of the Gyumri-Kars railway [between Armenia and Turkey] is simply vital and can play a key role in the entire transport movement up to the Black Sea, the Persian Gulf. We have certain agreements. We have agreed, for example, to jointly restore the historical bridge of Ani. This simply complements the already implemented decisions, which establish direct air flights, the elimination of obstacles to air cargo transportation," added the Armenian FM.

Mirzoyan noted that there are agreements that have not been implemented so far. For example, free movement across the border for citizens of third countries, and the opening of this border for citizens of Armenia and Turkey who have diplomatic passports.

“You are also aware that since February 28, the border service at the Armenia-Turkey state border’s Margara crossing point, which has already been renovated by the [Armenian] government's decision, the border service [there] is carried out solely by the border guard troops of the Republic of Armenia. This, of course, means that since March 1, all border checkpoints of Armenia are serviced by the border [guard] troops of the Republic of Armenia. This is not an unimportant fact, to put it mildly. Of course, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Russian Federation and our [Russian] partners for providing this [border] service until now," the Armenian FM added.
