US President Donald Trump said at a press conference at the Justice Department that he had had “very good calls” with the Russian side.

At the same time, he admitted that there is still a “long way to go.”

“If I were president, there would be no war at all. We had good relations, (Putin - ed.) respects this country,” the US president said.

He added that good progress had been made in the talks.

“I think we've made good progress. But there's still a long way to go. The fighting is unbelievable... I asked (Putin - ed.) not to kill those surrounded soldiers,” Trump said, probably referring to Russia's offensive in the Kursk region.
