Azerbaijan seems to be putting off the signing of a peace agreement with Armenia. At least, this is evidenced by the frequent statements—in the form of ultimatums—from Baku, and the obviously impossible demands, especially in a short period of time.

In response to the constructive proposal by the Armenian Prime Minister’s Office, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has launched a tirade, the essence of which boils down to ultimatums and impossible demands.

“We categorically reject the Armenian prime minister’s statement of March 18, 2025, which, along with completely unfounded allegations against Azerbaijan, distorts the realities on the ground and the facts of shelling of border areas,” said Azerbaijani MFA spokesperson Aykhan Hajizada.

Yerevan had asked Baku to provide facts about the alleged shelling by Armenia. But in response, the Azerbaijani MFA stated that “the main condition for achieving stability is the cessation of shelling, (…), as well as the open provocations of Armenian servicemen recorded in video recordings, which the Armenian side is also aware of.” No facts were presented.

Speaking about the conclusion of talks on the text of the peace agreement, the Azerbaijani MFA spox very confusingly accused Yerevan of “sabotaging the negotiation process by all means,” after which he agreed to the “massive militarization, including the deployment of shock weapons in border regions.”

Also, Hajizada once again voiced the Azerbaijani demand to change the constitution of Armenia “in order to eliminate the claims toward the sovereignty and territorial integrity Azerbaijan.”

“At the same time, we emphasize the need for the official dissolution of the outdated and ineffective OSCE Minsk Group and relevant structures,” he added.

As it turns out, the paths toward peace proposed by the Armenian side do not satisfy Azerbaijan.

“If the Armenian side is truly interested in opening communications in the region, it should not evade its obligations and take practical steps towards opening communications in accordance with the new realities in the region. Azerbaijan will continue its peace efforts in all directions and will resolutely suppress steps that contradict this process,” the Azerbaijani official said threateningly.

Translated from Hajizada’s language, this means that Azerbaijan is not interested in real peace at all, but exclusively in levers of pressure. Now Azerbaijan is demanding from Armenia a land “corridor” with all its precisions and lies. And judging by the readiness of the respective infrastructure, it is not at all about a route via Meghri, Armenia.
