In Brussels they are waiting for the second reading of the draft law “On Initiating the Accession Process of the Republic of Armenia to the European Union”. Only after that they will be able to react. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan in the National Assembly at the extraordinary session of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on European Integration during the discussion of the second and final reading of the draft law on March 24, answering the question of Armen Gevorgyan, a deputy from the opposition Armenia bloc.

The latter, in particular, asked whether there was any official reaction from the EU executive bodies in connection with the draft law.

Hovhannisyan responded that the official response was contained only in the documents and decisions adopted by the Armenia-European Union Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.

The opposition MP, however, was less optimistic. “Since I know their style of work, I will say directly and honestly: in fact, they never wait for the second or third reading. If there is a political decision, they either welcome it initially, or go along with it, or react positively, or don't react at all,” Gevorgyan said.

Nevertheless, after some discussions, the legislative initiative received a positive conclusion of the Parliamentary Standing Committee.The Parliamentary Committee approved the bill on Armenia's EU membership in the final reading.
