Iran welcomes the agreement of the text of the draft peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan and encourages to sign the document as soon as possible. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated at a joint press conference with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan in Yerevan.
The Minister stressed Iran's unchangeable position of respecting the independence and territorial integrity of the countries, inadmissibility of changing the existing internationally recognized borders and geopolitical changes in general.
The Minister emphasized that all regional problems should be solved through diplomacy, without the use of force, by the efforts of regional countries. According to the Minister, the peace agreement is of great importance for peace, stability and economic development in the region.
Answering the question about the risk of escalation of the situation, the Minister said, “We hope that the existing problems will be solved soon and the document will be signed. There is a risk of escalation and we hope that the agreement will minimize the risk and we will witness stability, which stems from common interests”.
