Armenia's relations with friendly Iran are developing steadily, being one of the priorities of the government in Armenia. This was stated by RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan at a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart, Seyed Abbas Araghchi.

According to him, the relations are developing in all directions and progress has been registered in all spheres. The Foreign Minister stated that in 2024, the trade turnover figures exceeded those of the previous five years: and today the sides discussed the possibility of increasing the volume to 3 billion dollars. The Minister recalled that the opportunities have been supplemented by the conclusion of an agreement between the IRI and the EAEU on the establishment of a free trade zone.

Besides, IRI participates in the projects in the Republic of Armenia, which are of strategic importance; for example, the Iranian side is entrusted with the construction of the Kajaran-Agarak section, which is of great importance in the “Crossroads of Peace” project. Iran was not only one of the first to welcome the initiative but also participates in its realization in practice, the Minister noted.

In his turn, the Iranian Foreign Minister pointed out the untapped potential in bilateral relations. According to him, Iran and Armenia are ready to create conditions for transit and cargo transportation both in the direction of the Black Sea, the Persian Gulf, India, Oman, to build a new bridge on the Arax River. In this context, the Iranian minister spoke positively about the “Crossroads of Peace” project, noting that its realization will create great opportunities for the development of relations between the two countries.
