The peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku will be a breakthrough, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said in Astana, Sputnik Kazakhstan reports.  

After long negotiations, it is time to sign the agreement and move forward to achieve peace in the South Caucasus and open economic opportunities, he emphasized.

During the meeting with the Kazakh Foreign Minister, important regional issues were touched upon. Mirzoyan presented Murat Nurtleu with the latest developments and data regarding the settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“Including the harmonization of the draft agreement on the establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Armenia's proposals for achieving sustainable peace. Armenia's position is clear - recognizing the territorial integrity of the two states and conducting the demarcation process based on the provisions of the Almaty Declaration. Obviously, it is also important to resolve humanitarian issues, including clarification of the fates of missing persons and release of prisoners of war and held civilians,” the Armenian Foreign Minister stressed.

We appreciate the statement of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry in connection with the completion of the negotiations on the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Mirzoyan continued.

He also recalled that Kazakhstan provided its platform for the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations. And the states are united in striving for independence.

“I am confident that by joint efforts we will be able to further develop and strengthen our bilateral relations, which have a strategic orientation. Our mutual visits and active contacts lay solid foundations for our partnership. Therefore, I am pleased to invite you to Armenia on dates convenient for you,” Mirzoyan noted.

The potential of bilateral trade turnover significantly exceeds the previous indicators.

“We have agreed to redouble efforts on the implementation of the Roadmap on Trade and Economic Cooperation between the governments of our countries for 2024-2025. And also on holding a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation,” Mirzoyan said.

In response, Murat Nurtleu noted that Astana and Yerevan share similar views on many issues on the world agenda.

“We also attach great importance to ensuring security and peace in the South Caucasus,” he said.
