During the meeting, the sides discussed energy issues and especially the prospects of green energy development. Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan stated this during a joint press conference with the German President.

“There is already a plan with the German financial organization KFW to complete the construction of new power lines to Georgia.

Economic issues, possibilities of exporting electricity from the South Caucasus to the European Union were discussed.

During the discussions, the issue of the Black Sea electric cable was also included in the agenda. I think that in the future, thanks to the help of Germany and support of EU partners, we will be able to become a part of this project. 

Today the share of green energy in Armenia's energy balance is about 40%, and this share will increase. We will have a surplus of electricity and it will be necessary to export it,” Khachaturyan added.

In addition, he said the sides discussed possibilities of expanding trade and economic relations between the two countries.

“It was noted with satisfaction that Germany is one of Armenia's main trade partners, the first among the countries of the European Union.

We highly appreciate Germany's continuous support to Armenia in promoting sustainable economic and social development in many priority areas, including education, renewable energy and infrastructure. I also expressed gratitude for Germany's longstanding support for democratic reforms in Armenia.

We touched upon a number of issues related to regional development, emphasizing the need for peaceful resolution of existing conflicts on the basis of international law and respect for the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and equality of all countries.

We stressed the consistent support of the German Government to the efforts aimed at the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

I presented to my partner the work carried out by Armenia for the establishment of stability and peace in the South Caucasus. I once again emphasized the importance of unblocking the regional infrastructure and, in this context, the "Crossroads of Peace project,” the Armenian President noted.
