France and Mexico welcome Armenia's decision to support the limitation of the use of the veto power in the UN Security Council in cases of mass atrocities.

This statement demonstrates commitment to an effective multilateral system, based on the interests of the Security Council's ability to act in such situations. This is noted in a statement released on the website of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

“France, which assumes the presidency of the Security Council for a month on Tuesday, committed in 2015 not to use the veto power in cases of mass atrocities.

Since this year, we have been promoting with Mexico an initiative that has received the support of 107 countries. Its 10th anniversary will be marked this year during the high-level week of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly," the statement also reads.
