The accession of new members to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), including friendly ones such as Armenia, will broaden the scope of cooperation and expand opportunities in security, trade, and culture within the framework of the organization. Iranian ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani stated this during a respective seminar on Thursday.

According to Sobhani, the expansion of the scope of SCO participants attests to the appeal and significance of this organization in the international arena. The Iranian diplomat added that the accession of new members and the interest of others to join the SCO will increase this organization’s strength and influence in the region and the world.

Sobhani emphasized the importance of preserving the sovereignty of each country and ensuring regional security so that no nation feels threatened and can develop in peaceful conditions.

“Our region, with its rich history, is a treasure trove of languages, cultures, and traditions. The SCO provides a unique opportunity to transform diversity into a unifying force. Promoting the Shanghai [Cooperation Organization] spirit means adhering to principles and domains such as regionalism, transport, technology, security, culture, and people-to-people contacts. We live in a world where multilateral cooperation is no longer a choice, but a necessity,” noted the Iranian ambassador to Armenia.
