Iran stands ready to support any format proposed by Armenia and Azerbaijan for establishing peace, maintaining a ceasefire, and signing a peace agreement. This was stated by Iranian ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani, speaking with reporters on Thursday.

In his view, in this regard, "3+3" is a good format, with the help of which it is possible to achieve the signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Sobhani said that Iran is in favor of establishing peace and tranquility on the border, and believes that any action leading to an increase in tension should be avoided.

The Iranian diplomat expressed hope that Armenia and Azerbaijan will show restraint and will be able to proceed to the signing of a peace agreement.

"We [i.e. Iran] hope that all parties will remain committed to the principles aimed at peace and tranquility. We are in contact with both Armenia and Azerbaijan. During our contacts, we encourage the [two] parties to move towards signing a peace agreement," said the Iranian ambassador to Armenia.
