The developments taking place in southern Armenia—in Syunik Province—are directly linked to Iran’s interests, and that is why Tehran considers a change in internationally recognized borders a “red line.’ This was stated by Iranian ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani during an international conference on Thursday.

Sobhani said that the development of events in Armenia, the South Caucasus, and Iran is interconnected.

“The fate, interests, and security of Iran and Armenia have always been interconnected due to [their] geographical proximity and being in the same geopolitical space,” the Iranian diplomat added.

He noted that the border with Armenia is considered one of the safest in Iran.

“We [i.e. Iran] have never felt a threat from Armenia, and Armenia has never felt a threat from Iran,” Sobhani emphasized.
