The Azerbaijani media that were allowed to attend the illegal trial of the Armenian former leaders of Nagorno-Karabakh in the Azerbaijani capital Baku are publicizing scant information from this judicial farce.
David Babayan, the former foreign minister and presidential advisor of Nagorno-Karabakh, is being questioned Monday.
“David Babayan, answering the question of the [Azerbaijan] state prosecutor, confessed that he spoke against the integration of Armenian residents in Azerbaijan [i.e. Nagorno-Karabakh],” Azerbaijani media reported, apparently assuming that this confirmation could be used by the prosecution.
Also, Babayan confessed that the other Nagorno-Karabakh former officials standing “trial” also spoke against integration.
“No official saw the prospect of such integration,” he said.
Meanwhile, it was this idea of David Babayan that was “brilliantly” confirmed by the Azerbaijani authorities. After a series of military aggressions following the 44-day war in 2020, Azerbaijan occupied Nagorno-Karabakh in September 2023, and forcibly displaced the entire 140 thousand Armenian population from there.
Facts of genocidal actions of the Azerbaijani authorities were recorded also by the Russian peacekeepers in the region. Moreover, at least five Russian peacekeepers, who became eyewitnesses to the murders of peaceful residents of individual Armenian villages, were killed by the Azerbaijanis.
