Moscow hopes for a settlement of the situation between the US and Iran, and hopes that a military scenario will be avoided, Russian deputy foreign minister Andrey Rudenko said on Wednesday, Interfax reports.

“In the scenario you mentioned [i.e. US attacks on Iran], Russia is not obligated to provide military assistance [to Iran]. But the treaty also contains other articles related to technico-military cooperation and military interaction. And such cooperation is actively developing against the backdrop of the events taking place in Ukraine.

"Therefore, I believe that in the event of such a scenario, which we would like to avoid in every way as it threatens the most terrible consequences for the region, and we would not want Russia to be drawn into the settlement of yet another conflict. But, nevertheless, I believe that our government will launch everything that is necessary," stressed the Russian deputy FM.
