YEREVAN. – A military campaign against Iran will be complicated, analyst, Iranian Studies specialist Karine Gevorgyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.  

In her words, military operations against the Islamic Republic are fraught with unpredictable consequences.

“A strike against Iran is extremely risky. But we can look back, see the mid-20th century, and observe that the leaders of the time made very irrational decisions. Therefore, striking Iran is completely possible,” Gevorgyan noted, adding, however, that there are a great number of clear-headed people in Israel, which is the most likely candidate.      

“The [UN] Security Council would not approve of a military strike against Iran. {And] If it is ultimately carried out, it will become the next unsanctioned military campaign, which will ‘send to the archives,’ once and for all, the role of international organizations, international law, commitments, etc.,” Karine Gevorgyan maintained.   

“First and foremost, Iran is a fairly united state, which has a considerable influence in the region. Despite UN sanctions, the country is attempting to arm itself, [and] to develop its military industry. And with respect to diplomacy, Iran makes use of all its capabilities, including the protesting diaspora, which is much more united and patriotic than, let us say, the Arab diaspora,” the analyst argued.    

And summing up the results, the Iranian Studies specialist noted that a military campaign is very risky. “Everything is possible, but do not be afraid,” Karine Gevorgyan concluded.
