The government of Armenia, at its Cabinet meeting Thursday, made a decision to open an Armenian embassy in Oman—seated in Omani capital Muscat.

The respective explanation notes that in recent years, there has been activeness in friendly relations between Armenia and Oman, and there is potential for cooperation in mutual trade, cargo transportation, air communication, information technology, education, science, culture, and tourism.

Oman, thanks to its balanced foreign policy, positions itself as a neutral state in regional processes, contributing to the development of dialogue and cooperation between regional powers, the explanation adds.

Armenia has expressed a wish to open a resident embassy in Muscat, to which Oman has responded positively, adding that in such cases the principle of reciprocity is usually applied.

The cost of opening the Armenian embassy in Oman have been estimated at Armenian drams equivalent to only US$ 345,700.

With the adoption of this decision, Armenia's state budget expenditures will increase by 51,880,800 drams (approx. $132,123).
