Over the past six months, 55,837 people have visited the History Museum of Armenia to see the exclusive international exhibition “Mother Goddess: From Anahit to Mary,” within the framework of which the head and hand of the famous bronze statue of the Goddess Anahit, which are kept in the prestigious British Museum, were exhibited for the first time in Armenia.

“We can consider it perhaps the most visited exhibition of the period of independence. Most importantly, it was organized in the non-tourist season, in the autumn and winter months, when museums usually have fewer visitors. With this visit, the museum became more alive,” said Davit Poghosyan, Director of the History Museum of Armenia, at a press conference.

“This exhibition was organized on the basis of the high standards of the British Museum and international exhibitions in general. For the first time Armenia had a loan at this high level. This will become continuous. It was an opportunity to combine the rich collections of Armenia’s history with other prestigious museums and other cultural treasures, in a completely new format,” he added.

The international exhibition entitled “Mother Goddess: From Anahit to Mary” had opened at the History Museum of Armenia on September 21, 2024. In addition to the aforesaid statue of the Goddess Anahit, the exhibition features more than six dozen exhibits from the rich collection of the History Museum of Armenia, presenting the idea of the Mother Goddess, from paganism to Christianity.

The exhibition is a collaboration between the History Museum of Armenia and the British Museum.
