French foreign minister Jean-Noel Barrot has expressed hope that the European Union (EU) civilian monitoring mission in Armenia will be expanded. This was informed by the French ambassador to Armenia, Olivier Decottignies, on X.

"I hope that the European [civilian monitoring] mission deployed on the ground can be expanded to be able to observe and contain these tensions [on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border]," Barrot noted, in particular.

As reported earlier, the European Council of the EU  decided—in late January—to extend the mandate of the EU monitoring mission in Armenia for another two years—until February 19, 2027.
