I have officially said and I say that Armenia’s army has no and will not have any task outside the sovereign, internationally recognized territory of Armenia. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted this in his remarks Tuesday in the National Assembly during the debates on the Armenian government’s performance report for 2024.
“Even with regard to the [Azerbaijani-]occupied territories of more than 200 square kilometers of Armenia, the [Armenian] army will not be given a task because the regulation on the joint work of the [Armenia-Azerbaijan] border delimitation commissions, which has been ratified by both countries, creates mechanisms for resolving these issues peacefully,” Pashinyan said, adding that the army is an “attribute of the state,” it is indispensable to have a capable army.
In this context, Pashinyan stated that the army is not the only and primary tool in ensuring Armenia’s security.
“The primary tool is peace, which is what we are pursuing,” he added.
