It is necessary to establish the positions of sergeant of the general staff, corps sergeant, and staff sergeant in the Armenian Armed Forces. This was stated by deputy minister of defense Arman Sargsyan during the debates on the draft law on making addenda to the law on the remuneration of persons holding public positions and civil servants, at Friday’s session of the National Assembly of Armenia.
According to the deputy defense minister, special coefficients will be used when calculating the salaries of contract sergeants of the Armenian armed forces.
"In the process of implementing reforms in the armed forces, the development of the sergeant system, which is the key condition for the creation of professional armed forces, is of primary importance," Sargsyan explained.
As a result of these changes, salary coefficients will be established for the positions of regiment (brigade) sergeant and battalion (division) sergeant.
According to him, the study of the sergeant system of the armies of Western countries, as well as Eastern Europe, has shown that the regiment-level sergeant system includes sergeants of the general staff and army directions, and they oversee the activities of lower-level sergeants and ensure the vertical command of the sergeant system.
The full introduction of the professional sergeant system in the Armenian Armed Forces and the proper provision of their activities also implies the creation of the positions of army, corps, and senior sergeants.
“In this regard, a need has arisen to establish salary coefficients for the above-mentioned positions,” added the deputy minister of defense of Armenia.
