Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan on Monday participated in and delivered remarks at the General Debate entitled “Current and emerging policy issues for inclusive and sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific” within the framework of the 81st session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), in Bangkok.

In his remarks, the Armenian deputy FM emphasized that the meeting offered an ample opportunity to reflect on the progress achieved so far, current challenges and the way forward in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, informs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

Abisoghomonyan highlighted the importance of the ongoing cooperation between Armenia and UNESCAP in promoting green economy, environmental protection, human capital development, and connectivity.

Addressing the importance of international support in reducing countries' vulnerability to climate change, the deputy FM of Armenia emphasized the necessity of building resilient infrastructure and implementing early warning and preparedness systems. In this context, Robert Abisoghomonyan briefed on the human casualties and material damages resulting from the devastating floods in the northern regions of Armenia last year.

The Armenian deputy FM underscored the significance of hosting the upcoming COP17 on Biodiversity in Armenia’s capital Yerevan in 2026, emphasizing it as a key platform for cooperation on biodiversity and climate change. It was highlighted that Armenia, as the host country, has adopted an inclusive approach, ensuring the involvement of civil society, international organizations and all other stakeholders.

Touching upon Armenia’s peace agenda, the deputy foreign minister introduced the Crossroads of Peace initiative of the Armenian government, stressing its potential as a vital guarantee to ensure economic interconnectivity and establish lasting peace—both within the South Caucasus and beyond.
