The National Assembly of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) has issued a statement on the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

“The Armenian Genocide committed by Ottoman Turkey in 1915 is one of the most barbaric crimes in the history of mankind, the objective of which was the complete extermination of the Armenian people.

Unfortunately, this crime remains unpunished to this day, which is why it has become a precedent for new genocidal acts.

The war crimes, the exhausting blockade, the forced displacement, and atrocities committed in Artsakh in 2020-2023 are a continuation of the same genocidal plans by the Azerbaijani authorities in the 21st century. All actions taken by Azerbaijan—the de-Armenianization of Artsakh, ethnic cleansing, and the elimination of the historical presence of the Armenian people [in Artsakh]—correspond to the international legal definition of genocide.

The international community is obligated to give an adequate legal and political assessment to these actions, recording their compliance with the comprehensive definition of genocide. Silent acceptance of genocide is criminal indifference, unpunished genocide—an invitation to a new genocide.

Unfortunately, in this reality, the position of Armenia’s authorities is also incomprehensible and inexplicable. Condemning the genocide and calling the perpetrators to account are among the guarantees of preventing further genocides, which, of course, do not replace the mandatory strong security system and the far-sighted domestic and foreign policy of the state.

The 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide is also an opportunity to express the collective will of the Armenians around the world for a safe and secure future and in memory of our martyred ancestors. We remember, respect, and must never forget our compatriots who became victims of genocide through violence, pain, and unspeakable suffering.

They live in our memory and give us strength to fight for truth, justice, and human dignity. Eternal glory and homage to all martyrs for faith and homeland," reads the Artsakh National Assembly statement.
