It is a fact that the Armenian state has kind of pushed the issue of Armenian Genocide to the background. Armenia’s third President Serzh Sargsyan on Thursday told about this to reporters at the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan.

“Assuming what they [i.e. the incumbent Armenian authorities] thought, why they are doing it, is a thankless task. To say that the authorities have 100 percent denied [the Armenian Genocide], no; they came here today. But in my opinion, they are on that path [of denying the Armenian Genocide]. Whatever they say, whatever they do, it doesn’t matter. Eighty percent of our people will say that they are traitors. So paying attention to what they say is a thankless task,” Sargsyan said.

And asked whether that attitude will be reflected during the 2026 parliamentary election in Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan replied: "I believe this will be reflected also until 2026. Yes, we have a plan, but I don't think it makes sense to publicize that plan now."
