A French high school student stabbed four other students at his school on Thursday, killing at least one and injuring three others before being arrested, the Associated Press reported Thursday, citing local police.

The circumstances of the attack are unclear at this time. A national police spokesman said the attack took place at the private secondary school Notre-Dame-de-Toutes-Aides in Doulon, near Nantes on France's Atlantic coast.

The official said the student stabbed four people before teachers subdued him and he was later detained by police.

Footage from the scene shows police surrounding the school.
