The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan has issued a statement regarding the burning of Azerbaijani and Turkish national flags during a torchlight procession in Yerevan.

Let us recall that every year, on the eve of the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, a torchlight procession and the burning of the flags of the countries that orchestrated this mass extermination of Armenians—Turkey at the turn of the last century, and Azerbaijan in our time—takes place in the capital of Armenia. These flags were burned in Paris, too.

This time, the Azerbaijani MFA decided to take advantage of the opportunity. It believes that the “governments of Armenia and France should have prevented such campaigns embodied in ethnic hatred, in a timely manner and should have taken appropriate security measures.” Moreover, according to Baku, the “governments of Armenia and France should hold those responsible for these acts accountable.”

But following this logic of the Azerbaijani MFA, the first person to be held accountable for this “clear manifestation of a revanchist and ethnic hatred-based mindset” is Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev himself. There are numerous photos on the internet where Aliyev tramples on the Nagorno-Karabakh national flag.

And if Baku attempts to object to this by saying that the Nagorno-Karabakh flag under Aliyev’s feet is practically a “terrorist flag,” then let’s recall the photo of the Aliyev couple trampling on a road sign in Armenian. The only “flaw” of this road sign is that it is in Armenian. Also, Aliyev is showing the sign of the Turkish ultranationalist movement, the Grey Wolves

It is necessary to acknowledge the short memory and even a certain childishness of the Azerbaijani MFA.
