Iran is implementing a project to ensure land communication between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan, the Iranian president said.

Masoud Pezeshkian spoke—in an interview with AzTV—about the construction of a road that will enable the people of Azerbaijani to travel safely and comfortably between the main part of the country and its Nakhichevan exclave.

“We have come up with the initiative to ensure land communication between the main part of Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan. Today, this project is being implemented at a very fast pace, it has already been agreed upon, and there will be no problems,” Pezeshkian said.

The Iranian leader emphasized that land communication will be established between the lands of Iran, the main part of Azerbaijan, and Nakhichevan. “We consider Iran to be the second homeland of Azerbaijanis,” he noted.

Construction work is ongoing, the road will help establish connections not only between parts of Azerbaijan, but also between Azerbaijan and Iran.

“We are working to complete the connection more safely… I hope that this project will ensure safe communication between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan, and at the same time facilitate the connection between Azerbaijan and Tabriz, Ardabil, and Western Azerbaijan,” Pezeshkian noted.

This transport corridor through Iran, which will link Nakhichevan to the main territory of Azerbaijan, will bypass Armenia.
