I am glad to pay my first official visit to the Republic of Armenia as President of Georgia. I would like to express my deep gratitude for your unique hospitality. Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili stated this during a joint press conference with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan on Tuesday in Yerevan—and addressing Khachaturyan.

“During the meeting with my [Armenian] colleague, I noted with satisfaction that, against the backdrop of the complex geopolitical situation created in the world, we [i.e. Armenia and Georgia] continue to deepen the close political, economic, and people-to-people ties between our countries.

In a rapidly changing geopolitical environment, the establishment of stability and peace in the region is increasingly important. Georgia unequivocally has welcomed the announcement by Armenia and Azerbaijan on the completion of negotiations on the terms of a peace agreement. We [i.e. Georgia] believe that this is the beginning of an important process that requires further joint efforts to create a peaceful, secure, stable, and developed South Caucasus region.

We hope that Armenia and Azerbaijan will sign a peace treaty in the near future,” the Georgian president stated.

He emphasized that during his meeting with the Armenian president, they spoke about the trilateral meeting held in Georgian capital Tbilisi on April 17, which is the beginning of trilateral cooperation between the countries of the South Caucasus.

“Georgia supports the process of peace and stability in the South Caucasus. We are ready to deepen regional cooperation in all directions and contribute to the formation of a just and peaceful multifunctional international order.

I am glad that the Days of Georgian Culture will be held in Yerevan on June 5. Next year, we look forward to holding the Days of Armenian Culture in Tbilisi, which once again illustrates the rich heritage, traditions, and modern achievements of Armenian culture. Respect for the unique traditions and history of our countries is a fundamental value," the Georgian president said.
