The European Union (EU) has not yet received an application from Armenia for membership in the EU; and when it receives it, it will discuss it. The EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, told about this to the RFE/RL Armenian service.

Without specifying whether Brussels will approve such application if received, the senior European diplomat only emphasized that this wish to join the EU voiced in Armenia shows how appealing the European family is today.

What happened in the Armenian parliament shows that the appeal of the EU is now greater than before. There are two conditions for any country to apply for membership in the EU: it must be a country and be in Europe. The EU has not yet received an application from Armenia, when it receives it, it will discuss it. But this shows that the EU is interesting to many countries, Kos noted.

And to submit that application, Armenia must go through a number of procedures, and the European Union will consider when that happens, added Marta Kos.
