As of March 31, Armenia's national debt amounts to 5 trillion 318 billion drams, which increased by 4.4% compared to December 31 of the last year, and increased by 5.8% in US dollars, Minister of Finance Vahe Hovhannisyan stated during Friday’s press conference.

"According to the results of 2024, the national debt/GDP ratio has decreased by 0.1 percentage point. The [national] debt expressed in US dollars amounts to 13 billion 581 million dollars. The drawing and amount of all this debt are planned by the budget of Armenia and the medium-term debt strategy, where both the amount of drawing of the debt and its sources are disclosed.

It is noteworthy to also record here that in recent years, the share of domestic debt in the total by currency of drawing and by residency has increased, and we have now reached the 50/50 level, which is a quite positive indicator.

In countries like ours, domestic debt makes up 20-30% of the total debt; we had the same level, too. But in recent times, of course, in recent years, we have been able to increase that share, which of course mitigates foreign exchange risks to a certain extent," said the minister of finance of Armenia.
