Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu exchanged warm greetings on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory during a telephone conversation on Tuesday, the Kremlin press service reports.

"The determination of the two countries to uphold the truth about the events of the Second World War and to counter attempts to revise its outcome and falsify history was noted. The decisive contribution of the Red Army and the entire Soviet people to the defeat of Nazism was emphasized. The memory of the war heroes, those who gave their lives for the sake of victory, is sacredly honored both in Russia and in Israel, where May 9 is also a public holiday.

During the conversation they also discussed various aspects of the situation in the Middle East region and topical issues of bilateral relations," the statement says.
