Chinese President Xi Jinping is confident that his visit to Russia will further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries and contribute to the maintaining of global strategic stability, reports Xinhua.

“During my visit, I will meet with [Russian] President [Vladimir] Putin to have an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations, practical cooperation, and major international and regional issues of common interest, so as to give a powerful boost to the development of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation in the new era,” the Chinese foreign ministry quoted Xi Jinping as saying in a written statement released upon his arrival in Moscow on Thursday.

It added that “independent and sound China-Russia relations” not only serve the interests of the two peoples, but also “make important contributions to maintaining global strategic stability and promoting a fair and orderly multipolar world.”

The Chinese president stressed that his country and Russia “will work together to safeguard the achievements of the victory in World War II, firmly uphold the international order based on international law, oppose hegemony and power politics, practice genuine multilateralism, and contribute to building a more just and reasonable global governance system.”
