Our political shame is that, having come to power, we lived and thought within the same logic, and believed and trusted the logic that has existed for 30 years in the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. The speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, told this to reporters on Thursday.
According to him, this logic was that “you can call the Russians, they will stop the war."
"This is our shame. We thought that if this system works, it would be better not to touch to it. But they [i.e. Russia] dropped the war in our pocket and left. Yes. It’s a shame that we allowed them to drop the war, the illusion, and the lie in our pocket and leave," Simonyan noted.
He added that in January 2020, when third president of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan was being tried for corruption, he took the loudspeaker and declared that Nagorno-Karabakh will never be part of Azerbaijan.
“I thought that everyone knew well what he was talking about, they knew [it] during the April 2016 war. Our political shame is that when we first came to power, we did not imagine that Armenia and the Armenian people could be treated with such hostility,” said the speaker of the Armenian parliament.
